The Best Home Theater Projectors of 2022
From portable projectors to affordable home theater models to light cannons built for gaming or 4K HDR, these are the best projectors for your money.
Best overall home theater projector
The Epson Home Cinema 5050UB is the best all-around home projector we’ve reviewed. With excellent contrast, paired with impressive brightness and accurate color, all details are better than what a 1080p native resolution projector can provide, and you’ve got all parts of a great image. It comes with HDMI 2.0 which allows you to do 4k60p. Wide lens shift and power zoom are the icing on the cake.
Best projector for the money
This modern projector produces bright pictures with high contrast and true-to-life color accuracy. It’s also one of the only comparable models with vertical lens shift, which makes setup a little easier. It supports most media players, game consoles, PCs, Macs and mobile devices with input options like HDMI, USB, etc. Additionally, the projector offers a low input lag of 16ms for immersive gaming.
Best cheap projector
The performance of the tiny P8 is far greater than its size. Although to be fair, the handheld size doesn’t mean it can project images. It looks more like a toy. But it’s fairly bright and has a built-in speaker.
It has no battery and doesn’t have any streaming apps. So you need to take that into consideration. It does have an HDMI input and a USB connection so you can hook up a streaming stick and get all the streaming apps you could possibly want.
Best portable projector
It’s smaller than a six-pack of Cokes, comes with Wi-Fi streaming, an amazing-sounding Bluetooth speaker, and even a handle. It provides automatic vertical and manual horizontal keystone correction. This portable mini projector powerhouse also has one thing that many compact projectors like the Vimgo P10 lack: a built-in battery. This budget projector is a really cute all-in-one entertainment machine.
Best 4K projector for the money
The Optoma UHD35 is a modern projector that is small and inexpensive. This budget projector throws a lot of light, and its color wheel produces accurate colors with great detail. This 4K UHD projector offers great picture quality for just a few hundred dollars, better than the best 1080p projectors. It doesn’t offer lens shift or zoom, but if it fits your room, it’s a great way to get a 4K projector on a budget.
Best cheap projector runner-up
The Vimgo P10, which fluctuates between $170 and $270, is on the same level as our favorite budget projector, the AAXA P8. It’s significantly larger than the P8, the largest budget projector we’ve actually tested, and thus far less portable. However, it’s still “small” compared to full-size and more expensive projectors.
Image quality is better than the P8 in some areas and worse in others. The Vimgo P10 has great contrast and decent brightness, but the colors are terrible. The center of the image is noticeably sharper and brighter than the rest of the image.
Best projector, money no object
The Sony VPL-VW325ES is a thoroughbred among ponies and a Porsche among Volkswagens, and it’s definitely a stunning piece for the price. Contrast, the most important aspect of overall image quality, is better than the Epson 5050, and much better than any inexpensive projector. That says something, as the Sony itself costs far more than any other projector on this list. It checks the game box with input lag reduction. It’s bright at up to 1,500 lumens and works well in a bright room.
